You are completely correct – the stats for Ancestry you are seeing do NOT include APN PC use. Via the APN Network Ancestry “sees” all use of its database as one connection regardless of the location of the user. This is the same for all database use on the APN network.

We’ve just had a flock of library staff attend the copyright for librarians seminar. We would like to know what other libraries might be doing in regard to advising customers of copyright law. Do any libraries have any copyright signage by their APN pcs informing users about copying CDs or DVDs? Does anyone have a succinct statement they use or are you not bothering? Congratulations Dannevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua and Eketahuna library staff – what a great job you are doing. Thanks for your blog and reminding me of how much I enjoyed assisting with the Tararua installs – meeting you guys and trying to convince you that it was no big thing! (and the stunned look on some people’s faces) I know how tricky it is sending cake in the mail so I’m not wondering where my piece is. Here’s to a fabulous second year.

It’s all fantastic. I’ve been helping oldies (my age!) to open Gmail accounts; telling the schoolkids that listening to the All Blacks haka, or watching Britney Spears ’strut her stuff’ is not really relevant to their ’survival’ research. But the rewards outweigh the annoyances. Because we have rules and regulations pertaining to internet use during school time, I am hoping that these will carry over to our fabulous APN system. Maybe I’m hopeful, but I’m a born optimist.

Phew. Fairlie install complete and before the end of my familiarization session mackcomlib was skyp’ing with her son (“just testing it’s working”, “of course you are”). Good-o, the pressure is off now and we can go back to learning how to write files to CD. (Boring!).

Wow – that will be so cool for you to be able to Skype your son. I had some Israeli tourists in the other week. A young couple who shared a computer; she skyped while he emailed. Love’s young dreams LOL. I thought it was really nice to watch then huddle up close, catching up with family on the other side of the world.
